Home / Success / Ben Latham Ben Latham Ben’s journey commenced with Options and Good Samaritan Industries (GSI), in September of 2017. How did we help? Ben commenced individualised service supports with Options, to assist him in developing his independent living skills, social skills and exploring work and work opportunities.Ben started a Discovery Process with his mentor looking at what his likes, dislikes and interests were. Alongside transport training and attending the Life and Work Skills course at Canning Vale on Friday mornings, Ben began to build on his confidence and social skills. This assisted him in feeling more comfortable approaching and exploring different work environments, social environments and other opportunities. What do they want to do next?Ben briefly tried some work experience at a Good Sammys retail store and at an Animal Volunteer Centre. He felt this was not a good fit and had always had a strong interest in computers and the administration side of employment.Ben then did some work experience at the Good Samaritan Industries office, when an opportunity arose through the Options Customised Employment Program, to do some work experience at the Government Employees Superannuation Board (GESB).What was the outcome/achievement?Ben has excelled and proven himself a valuable asset to the team at GESB. He has assisted them with their website reviews and in data entry, along with so many more duties. Now, GESB are working with Ben to set up and provide Ben with a Traineeship opportunity in their Information Technology Department. However, the State Government’s traineeship intake won’t be until next year. The great news is that in the meantime GESB has offered Ben two days a week of paid work. ..I never would have thought I would have come so far Ben Latham What makes their achievement so special?Ben explained in his Life and Work Skills (LAWS) class that he was excited at his progress since joining Options and that and that he “never would have thought he would have come so far”.Ben has grown immensely in confidence and it has been such a pleasure to see him grow over the past few months. Well done Ben.
