How did we help?

We knew right from the beginning that Zek was a special young man.

He had access to funding on his Plan to develop life skills and importantly to explore volunteering and employment opportunities. We met with Zek and his mum to get to know him and talk through his goals and aspirations. Once we knew what Zek wanted to achieve we matched him one of our super mentors to start his ‘Discovery Approach’.

What do they want to do next?

Zek’s mentor ommenced exploring Zek’s interests, likes and dislikes, along with exploring the local area to see what types of employment opportunities there may be. His mentor also assisted Zek with his resume and in identifying potential references for his resume, along with establishing a cover letter for him to distribute amongst places he identified as places he may like to work.

Alongside working on his employability skills, Zek’s mentor supported him in working towards getting his license. They worked together on perfecting knowledge on the road rules, completed the online tests a number of times, to upskill Zek, and get him ready for the Hazard Perception Test at the Licensing Centre.

What was the outcome/achievement?

Hard work and persistence eventually paid off and in early July of 2018 (Only 7 months after commencement of supports), Zek landed himself a paid position with KMart. After all the fantastic support and encouragement from Zeks mentor and lots of practice learning road rules etc Zek was successful in getting his licence- Yeah!!
